I’ve been exploring sound and interactivity as part of my MA Fine Art course at Teesside University. Sound and painting have been combined by many artists over the years, where one has provided inspiration to the other. I wanted to see if I could actually paint sound, have each contact between canvas and paint brush produce a sound, making the painting become a musical instrument and resulting in each painting having its own soundtrack.
This video shows examples of some of the test pieces I created while developing the idea. Each ‘brush’ is connected to my computer and attached to a sound. I wasn’t trying to really achieve anything with these pieces other then to try out the technology and explore its applications
