I created this piece as part of my Research and Development module during my MA Fine Art at Teesside University.
Created from a chair that stood in the corner of my Grandparents bedroom for as long as I can remember. I was interested in looking at ways to break and fragment memories as well as looking at the the concept of self. I cut the chair into pieces then looked at reassembling it into something new. I kept and used every piece of the chair, including the fluff, as it was important to me that the entire chair remained.
Once I had decided on a layout I mounted the pieces onto a section of plaster wall which I had decorated with the wallpaper from the room in which the chair had sat. I added an enamel stripe down the middle of the piece, partially to link to my Granda’s time at sea, and partially for aesthetics.
The piece has been exhibited in two exhibitions – ‘TASTE’ and ‘A Version of Events’
